Killowen Farm were clear winners at the Great Taste Awards which announced their stars of 2018 recently. The award winning yogurt, produced at the foothills of the Blackstairs Mountains in Courtnacuddy near Enniscorthy, won 25% of Great Taste Awards across the yogurt category. With stiff competition, six of their flavours submitted impressed the judging panel that blind tasted more than 24 products.
Two stars were awarded for the Killowen Farm Greek Style Yogurt with Lemon Curd. Judges commented that there was a “terrific balance between the yogurt and the curd, a first class tasty product.”
A further one star was awarded to the Killowen Farm Greek Style Yogurt with Rhubarb Compote, Greek Style Yogurt with Wexford Blackcurrant Compote and Greek Style Yogurt with Blackberry Compote respectively. While the Wexford Rhubarb is a firm favourite with customers, the judges also agreed. They added that “the rhubarb is extremely true in flavour” and that is was “good to see so much fruit in the yogurt”. The Blackcurrant flavour really pleased the judges too as they “enjoyed the contrasts of texture and really liked the lactic sourness and currant tartness”. While not available to purchase just yet, the Blackberry Compote which Killowen Farm is currently trialling received high praise too.
The final two flavours to receive awards are new to Killowen Farm. The Killowen Farm Greek Style Yogurt with Orange Curd and Greek Style Yogurt with Triple Berries Compote both received one star. Judges added that “the orange curd was startlingly bright, but light and in perfect harmony with the yogurt” while the triple berry was “attractive, creamy looking with a distinct berry colour and gentle citrus aroma”.
Commenting on the win, Nicholas Dunne, CEO of Killowen Farm said “We are absolutely delighted that the judges felt all our yogurts submitted were delicious. Only a third of the products submitted receive any award at all, so for us to received 25% of stars in the yogurt category is a huge achievement for us here in Killowen.”
