This event saw over 2000 products blind tasted by 350 judges in over 90 food categories and are the biggest blind tasting of produce in the country. The judging system, developed by Blas na hÉireann in conjunction with the Department of Food Science in University College Cork, is now recognised as the international industry standard.

We were fortunate to have two of our yogurts, Wexford Blackcurrant and Lemon Curd, shortlisted for the final judging which took place two days before the Awards. Having achieved Gold and Silver medals last year for Wexford Blackcurrant and Wexford Rhubarb, hopes were high as we headed to the Kingdom.

On Saturday morning there was a Blas Finalists’ Showcase and Networking Event. All the products that made it to the shortlist were on display as they would appear in shops, along with tastings.  This event was a great opportunity to meet all the producers, buyers and sponsors that take part in Blas na hÉireann.

Later that evening the Awards event itself was held, with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals being awarded in each category. To our delight, when it came to the Yogurt category, Killowen Farm Wexford Blackcurrant Yogurt was announced as the Gold Medal winner for 2014.

To add to the achievement this is the second year running that the Wexford Blackcurrant Yogurt has won the Gold Medal, and we are very proud to have been honoured twice. Our thanks go to Des Jeffares, who grows the finest quality blackcurrants on Ballykelly Farm, and to all the Blas team for organising such a wonderful and positive event.

We’re looking forward to 2015 already!
